MORE FROM EXPHYS

From working just 1–2 hours to returning to work 40 hours per week. A significant return-to-work outcome achieved through the EXPHYS BETTER Mood and Function Program. Following major depression and anxiety that significantly impacted his daily function and ability to work, a 62-year-old male was supported by EXPHYS consultant Charlotte Cummins to improve mental health, restore function and build capacity for a sustainable return to work. Through health coaching and exercise physiology focused on fatigue science, sleep optimisation, activity scheduling, functional conditioning and sustainable self-management strategies, significant outcomes were achieved: 🔷 Work status: Increased from 1–2 hours to 40 hours per week. 🔷 Work capacity: Progressed from No Capacity to Full Capacity. 🔷 Independence: Progressed from very limited to greater independence. When reflecting on his experience, the feedback focused on three things that mattered most: communication, empathy and listening. Highlighting the value of personalised guidance, understanding and ongoing support throughout recovery. ✅ NPS 10/10 ✅ Client Satisfaction: Very Satisfied

💙 The impact of timely care and coordinated support. After 28 years as a firefighter, Captain Andrew Evans of Fire and Rescue NSW's Ingleburn Fire Station received a life-changing diagnosis of oesophageal junction cancer in 2025, significantly impacting his health and ability to work. Initially told his cancer was inoperable and incurable, Andrew was able to access a second opinion and further treatment through the prompt intervention and coordinated support of EML Group and Fire and Rescue NSW. Through our partnership with EML and Fire and Rescue NSW, EXPHYS played an important role in Andrew's recovery and return to work. EXPHYS health professional Rhea Balmaceda delivered individualised support through the BETTER OnE Exercise Oncology Program, helping Andrew restore his health, physical function and confidence during and following cancer treatment, supporting his return to work as a firefighter. Andrew's journey demonstrates the impact from timely, evidence-based health support and collaboration between EML, Fire and Rescue NSW and EXPHYS. We are proud to recognise EML's Presumptive Cancer Claims Team on being named a finalist in the 2026 PIEF Excellence in Personal Injury and Disability Management Awards, in the Outstanding Contribution by a Team category. 🎥 Hear Andrew share his experience and the impact of the care he received.
